CUBA
Promotion of resilience, and seismic risk prevention activities
The eastern provinces of Cuba are highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes and prolonged drought.
The region is inhabited by 3.5 million people, 80% of whom are concentrated in cities that have undergone rapid urbanization without planning. This makes them more vulnerable to the effects of extreme natural disasters.
The objective of the project is to set up seismological stations, strengthen the knowledge of local authorities, technical staff and stakeholders in seismic risk management, implement a life-saving training program for Red Cross and firefighting personnel, and prepare local communities to cope with seismic events.
